The Familiar Soul

When I was seven years old, my grandmother died because of an unknown disease. I was one of the nearest in my grandma's heart. When she was still alive, she loved to read books and sing lullabies for me whenever I was going to sleep.

Yesterday was my 18th birthday and the party went well. It was 11 years ago when my grandma died and I remembered grandma's care that led me to cry in my room but my crying moments stopped when I started to feel I am not alone in my room. I could feel someone else in my room, something unfamiliar.

An unfamiliar noise broke the silence in my room because I heard something fall into the ground and I hurriedly checked what was wrong then I saw my picture with my grandma into the ground. I picked it up and cleaned the broken pieces of the frame.

But then I heard some unfamiliar noise again but this time it was from my bathroom. I was afraid because I was alone in the house that time. My parents were at work and I had to wait until the next day for them. I calmed myself and slowly went to the bathroom.

Opening the door of the bathroom slowly...

The following event left me in a shock and left me standing because the person inside the bathroom was the person I missed for 11 years...

I choked and murmured...

Gggrrrandma?!

Linger

Nothing can be heard. Nothing except for Luna's labored breathing. She is brisk walking and she knows her neck might snap from the moment to moment of looking sideways just to see if someone might be watching her. It is rather unethical and illegal for someone like her to scamper in a bright day in which everyone is expected to be in their deepest slumber. She doesn't care about her violations but any witness might spot her lawlessness.

Ten more steps and she is at her destination—her haven. It was nothing compared to the big houses in their town with their big windows and cascading curtains or the spectacular chandeliers. Instead, it was just a tiny shack already crumbling to ruins set in the brightest forest many miles from the town. With a last look back, she slowly pulled the unaligned door and tiptoed inside. She was not scared of the light; she came to love it when she started visiting the shack.

She loves staring at the beautiful pictures hanging on the wall. She never knew that they were called paintings until she came across that word in one of her readings. Though as much as she loves them, she could not find the courage to feel their texture because all of the expressions they wear were unfamiliar to her and were inexistent in their town. It was the look with a sparkle in their eyes and the slight upturn in their lips—it was as if they were seeing something so great, so magical in front of them. She always tried copying their looks on her mirror but whenever she feels the moment, it always caused her great pain.

She would spend all the 12 sleeping hours staring at the paintings then she would go home for the night and witness the town go back to life. It was the usual night for them to roam, be around and be gloomy—visit the dead, hear about pleasant nightmares and watch typical movies like Saw, Wrong Turn, The Conjuring and many more. All the things done in the town must align with the word gloominess. She does not know why but it was like that ever since she could remember. It is all too dark, too lamenting and too serious that pushed her to roam to the light and discover the shack in serendipity. Tonight was no ordinary—another happiness-seeker has been caught and they were going to watch banishing from the town.

She could be the one who was sitting there, she thought, sitting at that lonesome chair but she guessed her time has not yet come and she must be one of the million eyes peering at that show tonight.

No one must know, not even the elders or the cameras around the vicinity. No one must know about the burning desire in her, not with that impeccable wooden chair and all those curious eyes boring on her. If someone will get a whiff of her uncontrollable dream, about her secretive visits to the shack, she would soon sit on that chair, which she was not yet ready for. So slowly, she just stared at that dark-haired kid who stared steadily at her, too. She quite knows him. They told her the kid's mother died when she gave birth to him. Manacled on the chair, he had a rag for a dress and nothing more yet he kept still and looked very serene. He has sinned according to their law. He had sinned by looking for happiness.

Their greatest elder came forward in her usual attire—an emerald silk dress that snugged her fats too tightly making her seem ready to burst at any moment. Well, no one except herself, she guessed, thinks that way about the old woman or maybe that kid thinks the same way, too. She poured a concoction into a cup and with brisk face and speed, she managed to open the kid's mouth and pour in the liquid.

Not a tiny sound escaped from the crowd. Not even Luna made a sound. The other elders stood from their chairs and started to leave when the kid on the chair slowly vanished, like wisp of smoke he slowly floated away. She could feel the relief of the people around her. She knew what they were thinking, and it would be, ''At last! Another happiness contaminated person has left the area.'' It was what they were tought to think.

She stood there in the silence while everyone left to resume the events of the night. She stood there and with great pain, she visited a special friend's house—his family's mansion. She felt so empty entering the bleak mahogany door, then she stared at the food mounted on the dining table and yet, there was no desire for her to sit and devour the prepared supper. She closed her eyes and felt the burning of the hot liquid form her eyes, ''Why? Why couldn't we cry for the banished? Why are we not allowed to cry nor even smile?'' She kept on screaming in the back of her mind.

Muttering the same words she walked bitterly upstairs to his friend's room, she could not control her tears for they kept on flowing. Just midway on the staircase, she saw his father coldly staring at her, just staring at her and nothing more. Luna knows he saw her tears and he did what was needed to be done. Luna was next on that chair.

What an irony! Just minutes ago she was one of those spectators. She, too, like the kid just a moment ago, was manacled in the impeccable chair. She, too, was wearing ragged cloth as pants and nothing for her upper body. It was unbearably cold. She can feel their eyes on her; She can feel their loathing and torching desire to see her vanish. The next events were like a deja vu—the greatest elder with gut wrenching dress and that concoction creeping into her mouth. It did not taste like anything but she felt its coldness flowing into the deepest part of her. She sees herself, she sees herself being blown into the wind. It was her turn.

She woke up with the sound she never heard of. They were human sounds but very macabre to her. She opened her eyes and gently rose, she feels amazingly light and energetic. The place was flooded with sunlight. There were so many people around. People in their bright clothes, which seemed to be a swarm of different colors. They are all wearing the expressions she haÑ‹ only seen on the paintings. It was awkward staring at their faces with their open mouths emitting the sounds she kept on hearing—the sounds that make her feel light and heavenly. She stood there with shock. She just froze.

Amidst the flood of people, she can see the kid from the night before approaching her. The kid looked different. He was wearing a shirt with the color like the brightness of the sun and wearing open-toed sandals and he... he was smiling at her. He looked purely heavenly and said, ''come, join us'' with that, he pulled her hand and they started to jog then the pace started and they were running.

They ran so fast. Amazingly, the flood of sunlight grew more intense and the smell of lemon filled the place so they kept on running. The wind was against her face and she felt her lips curve with ease and make the smile she always wanted. ''Am I smiling? Am I smiling?! I cannot believe it!'' She halted forcefully. The dusted rose around her and lingered but she kept on smiling like she feared that it would soon fade away. The kid froze too but he still held her hand and saw her trying to plaster her smile on her lip. With lips apart and eyes sparkling, the kid was producing that pleasant sound, the sound she cannot define nor give a name to. She just uttered, ''You are... you are.'' He intervened immediately and said, ''I am laughing, I am laughing because I am happy that you are learning to be happy.'' Like a toddler, Luna repeated his words, ''laughing, and laughing'' as she held the kid's hand tightly and looked at his sparkling eyes. She felt her heartbeat drum very fast and loudly as she held his gaze and with a smile she repeated, ''laughing because I am happy.'' It is like a bursting of hypnotizing emotions in her chest, she couldn't help it. She kept on smiling and half-laughing as she looked into the swirl of the mesmerizing twirl and shine of the kid's dark brown eyes.

Her happiness was born. Her happiness now lingers.

The Bone

The story I will tell is based on a fact very commented in a city next to mine, the names that will be used are fictitious to preserve the identity of the protagonist of the story; photos will also not be used.

An old woman called Joanne, a widow, retired, around 60, was interested in moving home because her old house brought him unhappy memories from the recent loss of her husband, her sons are adults and live in another city, and continued alone and had to face a depression after the loss.

Joanne for help to move out and finally found a house not very large but larger than the old house she lived and comfortable, with garden, large windows and well ventilated. The price of the house also impressed her, cheaper than she imagined and she did not hesitate to acquire the property.

The house was very good, Joanne was adjusting very well, but she did not feel comfortable because the house is a bit away from the neighborhood. In order to do not feel alone, Joanne began to take care of a dog. A few months later, at the beginning of November, something unexpected happened. Her dog was barking very loud in the garden, Joanne went to see the dog is barking motive.

The dog found a big bone, Joanne noticed that the bone was big to be from an animal and been scared, she throws the bone in the trash. On the following day on waking, the bone was beside her bed. Terrified, Joanne decided to bury the bone in the backyard of his home. At nightfall, Joanne saw in her garden more bones in a large amount. Very similar to the previous one, but of different sizes.

Not knowing what to do, Joanne moved to a retirement home, talking to her new companions Joanne heard that the house had been built upon an old cemetery and that all the ancient inhabitants of the house had the same problem, bones always reappeared at the eve of day of the dead (Second day of November, here in my country) and only disappearing when candles were lit inside the house.

Strange Encounter

We carbon based life forms or better known as humans often think we are most intelligent, smart and epitome of evolution. We are the only species capable of stirring the earth.

But we live in a small planet in comparison to our grand solar system and have you ever thought there are so many other galaxies in this oblivion. Most of all we don't even discovered all the mysterious of out beloved planet yet. It's no wonder most of people believe it and this boy was no exception.

One day when Billy was returning home late from his soccer practice as usual, he does on every Tuesday.

He felt something is different in the atmosphere. The path he took today is rather short and passes in between the woods. Indeed the woods are lovely but that day it seemed everything became silent.

The chirping of crickets, the liveliness of trees all were missing. Something is off he thought casually as he was having a hard time not to trip in the dark from all those twigs and stuffs scattered on the ground.

When he was almost close to his house he heard something. A sharp noise was invading his eardrums. Something like beeeeeeeeeeep. He followed the noise for its source and stopped in front of a small ditch.

Then he saw it the whole water body had an pink aura which was emerging from a strange think. It looked like was made of glass, apparently if you put a large glass bowl upside down the thing was exactly same, the only difference was the size. There was movement coming from that large object, it was pumping very faintly but it was, just like a human heart.

As he was about to proceed further when a shocking sensation went through his body, the result made him immobile. After some time a creature started to getting out of the glass looking ship. First it took out one of its slimy tentacles then the whole body covered in some sort of sticky liquid. It then glided towards his direction and stopped one feet away.

Then the next actions of the creature were most astonishing. The creature was running all its tentacles all over him and occasionally pressing a certain part of fingers and palms of Billy.

And Billy to say he was dumbfounded would be an understatement. Abruptly the creature ceased all its movements. Before Billy could think what its nest actions would be the creature said,"Greetings Billy."

"Greetings to Billy."

The sound was ringing in his ear like an alarm. It had an quaint edge into it, clear but sharp at the same time. He had never heard such sound in his short span of life. Wondering if this is a dream Billy rubbed his eyes, pinched his arm.

Next when he opened his eyes again, excepting to find him in his room or even in his way back to home he gasped. The creature was indeed real. As much real as he is, if not more.

Sensing his confusion the strange creature spoke again, this time with an ear to ear grin.
"I expected such reaction from you. It's normal to be surprised if you encountered an alien. That's the term your species use for us. But I would be glad if you refer me as Ang."

The creature or Ang extended a tentacle which changed its shape in some sort of hand. Blank Billy stood there like an idiot and then assuming the creature's motives he took his hand out of his jeans pockets. Their skin touched in a handshake and for some reason Billy's fear was evaporating.

"You must have so many questions like who am I? From where I came? Sorts."

Billy finally found himself brave enough to speak.
"You're an alien?" Though it was a question but one of this rare occasions Billy was fully sure of himself, that the creature there is undoubtedly one.

"As I said I would appreciate it much if you just call me Ang", Ang said, annoyance evident in voice.

Billy: Ookay. ...so Mr.Ang if you don't mind ..I'm just curious what are you doing on Earth?

Ang: Oh sure! Actually It happens sometimes. You know the machines are not reliable in every case. I remember one time I was supposed to go on Mars but ended up in Venus. Haha...

Billy: That's bad.

Ang was continuing but the words were not imprinting in Billy.

Billy's mind was preoccupied with so many questions that it was becoming difficult to process everything in his human brain. It was a whole new experience to him, and possibly the one and only person who came to the knowledge about existence of a new species, like this.

He though, luckily, after some time recovered from his inner thoughts to hear the last part of Ang's self introduction,"...I had good journey of some thousand light years to reach Pluto, before the machines developed a problem with this solar system's magnactic force and my ship crashed here. My planet known as Kranius, and we're a far more intelligent species in every way than you humans."

That sounded unbelievable. Billy thought how this dwarf sized slimy creature, with shape changing tentacles and an odd ship can be intelligent than humans.

As if Ang was reading his mind he smiled, a faint smile. And then asked, "So tell me Billy how many languages do you know?"
Billy's native language was English and he recently started taking French classes for additional, so he gingerly replied one and half.

Ang: I know more than 35,000 different languages, and there is not a language in your solar system which I'm not able to speak. Besides I know other 5023 languages of other Galaxies.

Billy: Thhats greeat-

Ang: Are you a vegetarian?

Billy: No, I also eat meats of some animals like lamb, chicken, turkey and a few.

Ang: I used to eat animals you know, maybe I would have eaten you back then.

Billy: *swallows dryly* What are.. the other... things you do Mr.Ang?

Ang: I'm capable of some abilities like levitation of objects, fast healing, mind reading If I want, the list is rather long.

Billy: Amazing!

Ang: Cool, isn't it. How old are you boy?

Billy: 17 sir...you?

Ang: I'm just 839, but compared to our race I'm young. So don't be amazed.

To say the least Billy already was.

Suddenly Billy heard another beep sound from a watch looking device on the creatures wrists, and Ang frowned. "Seems like I stayed here too long, this forgetfulness will get me in trouble one day. It's time."

Ang then smoothly Ang made way back to the ship, but not before bidding Billy goodbye. He turned and smiled warmly at him, "It was nice to meeting you Billy, see you around. And keep playing your soccer, you're good."

With the the ship lifted up from the ground and hovered for a moment. Then faster then Billy could even blink it was gone. Disappeared into the night sky, like it was never there. But our Billy knew better.

Love Latters

There was a young man named Bami. He was on his way to the supermarket, when he saw a lovely beauty passing by. He could not take his eyes off of her. He said to himself, 'Wow, what a gorgeous lady! I will surely one day make her mine forever'. The lady entered her car and drove off from the supermarket to her home.

Unknown to her she was followed by Bami and finally she got out of the car and entered her home. Bami having traced her noticed that there was a mail box in front of her house, he thought 'What a golden opportunity'.

Bami went back to his home plotting a way to get her. Then he thought to himself 'Since she has a mail box and my house is far away from hers... sending love letters won't be a bad idea'. Quickly he put his pen to paper and started writing amazing love letters. Each day, after writing a letter he would call a postman to help him send it to her.

This continued for four months and to his surprised the lady married the postman.

THE SCARED CHILD

It was about 7 p.m. in the evening. After having his dinner a boy zoomed off to his dad's room asking his dad to put on the generator. The dad quickly went into the generator room and put it on.
DAD: Alright son it's on... Go to the sitting room and have some fun!
SON: Okay daddy.
He quickly went into the sitting room and switched on the television.
Some minutes later...
DAD: It's time to sleep.
SON: Okay dad.

The boy entered his room to sleep...He was already fast asleep, when the dad entered and put his shoes in his wardrobe and switched off the light.
Awake wanting to use the toilet, the son looked at the toilet direction, it was very dark. Frowning he decided not to wee, then put his face on his pillow tightly. After some minutes he couldn't bear it. He looked around again then saw two eyes in his window direction. He was already shrieking and sweating still having his eye on the two eyes he saw. He then closed his eyes and opened them again, looking at what he saw. He then suddenly shouted 'DADDY!'. Hearing his scream his dad ran into his room and said 'Son what is it?'

SON: Look at that two eyes! [Already urinated on his body]
DAD: Two eyes?! [Looking in the same direction, also afraid]
With great shock his dad ran to the light switch and switched it on. SHOCKING TO THEM IT WAS THE SHOES HIS DAD DROPPED IN THE WARDROBE. [Looking at each other and laughing]

The Last of It

On her thirteenth birthday she was given a brooch by her mother, since then she always kept it with her. Her mom died next year in a car accident and that brooch valued more to her afterward. Her dad was in business so he seldom came home from his work and when he did it's only for one or two days. She was raised mostly by the maids.

One afternoon while she was reading a fashion magazine her phone buzzed. She picked it up and glanced at the caller ID. It was an unknown number. She thought for a moment before taping the answer button.
''Hello?''
Silence
''Who's this?''
Silence again
''I'm hanging up!''
''Merlin...'', a female voice spoke from the other end. For one nanosecond she thought it belongs to someone really close to her. The voice continued, ''Oh! Merlin, I never thought it would be you baby,'' the voice didn't sound old but not very young either. It seemed like the owner is in her early forties or so.

The voice continued, ''How are you baby?'' Merlin was confused. ''How do you know my name?'' she questioned. After a moment of silence from both sides except the uneven breathing, the voice spoke again and it was like she is crying, ''I know more about you baby just than your name, and I'm really sorry baby girl for leaving you all these years. I know you have been through so much but I had no choice...'' It was enough for her to trigger the realization with whom she had been talking to. Her eyes watered with the truth. ''Mom is this you!? Mom!'' She practically yelled through her phone. Another moment passed than her mom said, ''Baby I missed you all these years. I mentally punished myself for leaving you. I know I can never make up the past but I'm looking forward to give you a better future.''

''How are you baby?'' The silence was grave. A crying self of Merlin answered, ''Mom I'm fine, I tried to be fine the way I could without you and dad, he is always busy and hardly stops by. Mom, I have so many questions to ask you.'' She said in between the sobs. ''Mom where have you been? I thought you were dead, nobody never uttered a word about you. I thought they are trying to make me feel better by keeping away from the incident. And with time they became indifferent like nothing happened. I never pushed it.''

The desperation was clear from her voice. ''Mom, how are you?'' Her mom answered, ''Merlin baby I'm really happy you were strong. I knew it, you're my strong girl. Okay baby now listen, you need to know this. I don't know if I get a chance again or not.'' Her mom sighed. ''What do you mean, mum?''

''Baby I know you were told that I died in the car accident and apparently the reason was sudden break failure. But that's not the truth. That day you were supposed to get the documents of original authorization for all our property. You're the real owner Merlin. All is yours, the money, the multiple businesses your dad runs. God, he's not even your dad. Your real dad died when you were a child and probably you don't remember any of it. David was the partner and that time I was depressed so he came forward to take your dad's place and to handle his businesses, so they could go smoothly like before. We got married.''

''I thought David was a good man until one day I realized what his true intentions were, so I decided to give you what is yours, but he is a dangerous man and has his reaches to all illegal matters. So I faked my death so you would be safe. He won't do anything if you're not a threat.'' Merlin was lost for words. She couldn't believe what her mom just said. From the other side she could hear lots of noises, but she had no clue what is happening.

''Remember I gave you a brooch, break it and you will find a paper folded inside. It is a small note, with a name of a man who can help you now, do it soon baby soon after this call. You should take your right and also show the true face of your step dad.'' The noises were becoming louder.

''Merlin baby, I have to go now. I have faith in you, be brave. Mom will love you always.'' Before Merlin could say that she loves her too the call ended. But now she had purpose and she was ready to keep the unspoken promise.

My tourist

For the first time in my entire life so far, I spent about three weeks in Warri town, a promising mini metropolitan city in the newly created delta state in Nigeria. I went there to spend my Easter break with an intimate college friend of more than eighteen years standing. Victor Davis.

Prior to my visit and arrival in Warri town, the only thing I knew about it was that Warri is a small port town with an aerodrome, a few national industries, the iron and steel, and petrochemical companies. One thing that thrills me about Warri is its metropolitan nature. The natives include the Urhobos, Isokos, Ijaws, Kwales and the Itsekiris. These distinct ethnic groups provide an interesting group of people. Although they differ in language but they largely dress the same way and eat the same types of food.

Within the second day of my arrival, my host took me to all the parts of Warri township, neighboring towns like Ughelli, Sapele, Abraka, Ozoro, Oleg, Kwale and other small villages. While we the Yorubas pride ourselves as the most culture rich and conscious groups of Nigerians, my visit to culture dominated Warri and environs has radicalised my orientation. Everywhere we visited I was given kola, drinks (local gin) with different sum of money accompanying the kola.

I was 'culturized' to always pocket the money while everybody would share in the other items of hospitality and welcome. In Warri area, especially the Urhobos and Isokos, only the younger persons are expected to kneel and greet the elderly ones first. The elderly don't ever genuflect, bow or kneel for the young ones. The young ones will say 'migwo' or 'digwo' (that is 'I am on my knees') and the senior person will respond 'vre nigwe' or 'kpamanigwe' (that is 'rise from your knees'). Among these people too, all young ones present where an elderly person is eating must greet him as he is about to begin and after he finished. This is done whether the young ones are eating with him or not.

Another intresting thing I learnt is about their style of marriage. Their marriage ceremonies are very simple and cheap to commence and finish. The differences between how the ethnic groups in the Warri area marry and Yoruba marriage ceremonies in minor specific details, not in substance. Because of cultural diversities, their girls boast of different shade of beauty. What I saw or even did in this regard is outside the scope of this narration. Suffice to say that I enjoyed myself within reasons and moderation.

My Isoko friends and host in preparing dishes, with assorted fresh fishes and bush meat. For the sheer variety and deliciousness of their dishes, one would have stayed at least six more months! They boast of different recipes. It surpasses what we have back in my part of the country. Have you eaten starch with banga soup before? What about assorted types of pepper soup? Have you ever eaten what the Urhobos and Isokos call Ukodo? This rich dish can make one forget his or her name! It was my host's place that I discovered the oiled brand which I've been used to all my life before the visit.

Most of the people I interacted with during my stay in Warri were polyglots. Most people could speak three languages. This is influenced by a combination of factors especially ethnic inter-marriage and their penchant for good social mixing together. A visitor or a foreigner will not have any problem communicating with the Warri people. They are mostly literate and illiterate ones speak richly, impeccable pidgin with English which one could not help but admire and learn. Even their aged ones speak pidgin with admirable fluency!

I fell in love with thier ways of life, rich veriegated dishes and their easy-going attitude to life.

They Exist

Ghost or Evil-spirit! When you hear these words your heart fills with an unknown fear. You don't even know why you are scared of these names when you have no connection with them. In my native language, ghost means past. Nowadays ghosts rarely exist. I don't want to argue about their existence, I believe they do, even somewhere in the world. Why I believe in their existence, I am going to tell you about that.

I have an uncle, he was a drummer in his small music group. Once they went for a function in our neighbouring village. In the evening, they arrived at the village. They had to start the function by 7:30. So they got ready for their function that's why they didn't go anywhere and went directly to the backstage for preparing their instruments. As per the schedule, they started their show at 7:30 pm and ended up at 11:30 pm. After finishing their show they were taken to a house by the organisation team as they were not able to go home as it was too late. But to my uncle the house seemed to be haunted as nobody had entered the house for a long time. Everything in the house was full of dirt and covered. In one corner they cleaned for themselves and stayed there.

Everybody was very tired so everybody finished their meal provided by the organizers and fell asleep. In the night, it was almost 2 o'clock, my uncle suddenly woke up and saw the room was dark as the light had gone. He wanted to smoke so he lit his match and he suddenly saw a shadow behind him. He quickly turned but there was nothing. My uncle could easily understand that there's something wrong in this house. He quickly called his other four mates and told about that. But they didn't agree and told him that its was his illusion because of his tiredness. So they lit a candle and again went to sleep.

One of my uncle's friend lay on a bed and looked at the ceiling and he saw something hanging from the fan. He stood up, my uncle and the others asked him what happened. He told them something was hanging from the fan. So they took the candle up to see what it was. What they saw was scariest of all.
They saw a human leg hanging from the fan. They all were puzzled how it was possible. When they entered the room there was no one there, after all, how can a man enter a house which was locked for several months. They were all scared now thinking that it couldn't be a human being. Without thinking anything else my uncle told them all to run away from this house.

They all started running but one of his friend's hand got trapped in the door as it had started to close. In that small gap of the door he could see a leg from the ceiling fan stretching to the ground and the inhuman body started to walk towards him. He tried to free his hand from the door with his all effort and luckily he could escape from there, and they all ran to the organisation office.

Somehow, they called the manager and told all that had happened. The manager told them that almost six months before there lived a couple and they had a son, he was almost 20 years old. One day, he hung himself from the ceiling and died cheated by his girl friend. After that, they went to the town and left everything here. Their son's spirit still lives in this house. They were all stunned thinking that they escaped alive from a haunted house, moreover, they were living under a ghost.

Lily's Neighbors (Part II)

Something changed, it was a terrible change.

After waking up Lily found herself pondering on the same question. How did she end up in her room? Her mom said she came back from there and went straight to her bedroom. But then why didn't she remember any of it.

She was feeling thirsty so she headed towards the kitchen. The thirst was becoming unbearable. She opened the fridge door to take a bottle. She gulped down the half of it but it couldn't quench her thirst. Soon she started feeling more and more thirsty, and deep down she knew it wasn't for water. The doorbell rang, when she opened the door she met with two unfamiliar faces. One of them was a tall woman with stunning silver hair and midnight sky eyes, she was in her thirties. Beside her was a boy with chocolate brown hair and green eyes with specks of golden in it. Lily didn't fail to notice the mischievous glint in them. He was almost the same age as her or a few years older.

The woman started 'You were in our house this morning. We thought you should know about it, Lily, that it's not a good habit to search people's houses. We want peace, I hope you can understand that and give us a little privacy.' With that, she stormed out of their porch. The boy kept staring at her for some moments before saying,'You life won't be the same anymore.' With that he also left, leaving a confused and afraid Lily behind. She shrugged mentally drowned in anxiety.

Her thirst was somehow submerged by those two, but again it was threatening to rise. She had to do something. She stepped outside. The mild summer breeze hit her face. It was evening. Her mom was out to run some errands and her dad never returned this early. In between her thoughts she saw something moving far, when she got close to inspect it was a someone. A man with dirty clothes, he seemed suspicious and familiar. She saw him before, but she could not pinpoint where. Then she realized it. She saw him yesterday on a poster. He was a wanted thief. The man looked menacingly towards her before taking two steps in her direction. His one hand went to his left pocket of jeans to pull out a metal wire. The silver material glistened under street lights. She was smart enough to process the latter. She ran in the opposite direction but the man yanked her by her leg and she fell to the ground. He stretched the wire, aiming at her neck and then silence.

One of them died. The body hit the ground with a thud. Lily brushed the dirt off her dress and went to her house. When her parents returned, there was a commotion. The locality was filled with ambulance and police cars. They panicked for their daughter but relief washed over their features when they saw her watching TV, no worries.

During dinner her mother noticed two bite marks on her neck and asked Lily about them, she waved the topic by saying, 'It's nothing mom, probably an insect bit me here.' Then her parents started taking among them about the murder. They also warned Lily not to wander off at night. 'Honey, we didn't want to inform you but today a person is murdered here. He was a wanted criminal, police was searching for him. They don't know what exactly happened or who murdered him. There was no evidence, or wound in his body. Just two streaks of blood trickling down his neck,' her mom finished. Her dad continued, 'And that's why you shouldn't roam around, it's not safe anymore. They told us to keep an open eye. The murderer is still on the loose.'

Lily finished her meal, stood up and smiled in their direction. 'I think I'm capable to take care of myself, okay goodnight mom and dad.' Lily left the kitchen for her bedroom, feeling satisfied. Her thirst was quenched, but not for long...

The Ritual

Bami's father was out on a long journey for about two weeks and he was returning home with his brand new vehicle he had bought. He drove 50 km all the way from his journey and got to a T-junction where there was a traffic light with a red light signifying him to stop. He quickly stopped his car and when it showed yellow he was wanted to start the car, but it didn't start.

Finally it showed red again and his car still didn't start. A lot of cars behind him beeped for about two min and it was very noisy. This woke the road regulation officer who was sleeping on duty. Suddenly Bami's father's car started and he was about to take off when the officer came up and stoped him.

Officer: Hey Mister, you have violated the road rules and regulations. [He only said this to get a bribe from Bami's Father.]
Bami's Father: But Sir, I didn't violate any ru...rules. [Officer breaks in.]
Officer: Shut up there! Now open your car and let's go to our office and pay 50,000 Naira fine.

Bami's father calmly opened the car for the officer and he entered.
Bami's father was very scared, knowing that he would have to waste a huge amount of money which he didn't have any intentions for. He continued driving having some thoughts in his mind.

Officer: [Pointing at the office direction] See that is our office.
Suddenly they are 2km away from the office. At the front of the office was a turn leading to the highway road. After getting to this turning point where he was supposed to park his car, he courageously turned his car steering to face the highway, quickly pressed a button that locked the car and put the windows up. [This made the officer brutally angry].
Officer: I told you that is our office and you failed to listen! Mister you have committed an offence number 2. That is you have just disrupted justice from taking place!
Bami's father behaved as if he wasn't in the car and ignored all this yelling and turned his gear to a faster one. After that, Bami's father's dad called him and while his phone was vibrating he quickly thought of a plan.

Bami's father: [He picked up the phone] Yes baba... The ritual you asked me to prepare is ready and I will be there in any minute. [Hangs up the phone].
Hearing this, the officer began to have various thoughts going on in his mind which were: What? Did he just say the ritual is ready? His he a ritualist? Am I going to be used as a sacrifice?
Officer: [The officer burst into tears] Sir, I am sorry I will not take you to my office... You didn't even commit any offences at all... Please forgive me I am sorry... I don't want to dieeee... I am too young to die please, my lord.
Bami's father was very happy in his heart that the plan worked but still made a frowning look.
Bami's father: [Parked the car and unlocked the door] Now get the hell out of my car you idiot!
Officer: [Wiping his tears] Yes sir thank you very much, my lord.

Bami's father drove off happily to his home and didn't spend any unnecessary money.

Signs You Are Addicted To Social Media

Do you know there are signs you are addicted to social media? The good news is that if you are addicted, there are things that you can do to deal with that. Social media is an awesome thing but it is also something we need to keep in proper perspective. Be on the lookout for signs you are addicted to social media and if you think you might be, make some changes to help you deal with that.
Social media addiction is the habitual or consistent use of social media such as: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc In this context, one will normally find it difficult to stop or minimise the rate at which he uses these apps. The worst part is some of us don't know or acknowledge they are social media addicts. So take chilled water and relax while I state some signs one is addicted to social media; and should you find yourself doing 2-3 of these signs, you take 'antidote' from my next article 'How To Stop Social Media Addiction'.

1. YOU CHECK IT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING
One of the commonest signs you are addicted to social media is if you check it first thing in the morning. This isn't a definite sign; for some of us, it is just a habit we enjoy while we are waking up. But if it is coupled along with some of the other signs you are addicted to social media listed here, it may be something you need to work on. Another sign that runs right along with this one is checking it in the middle of the night. Try to break yourself from this, even if it's just for a week to give yourself some free mental space.

2. YOU TEXT ON YOUR MOBILE WHILE WALKING OR EATING
This is one of the core signs you are addicted to social media. If you are the type that always have to make new post or tweet while walking or eating, be sure you are addicted to social. This isn't a healthy habit though; you need to break yourself away from it. Especially if you are always reminded of your breakfast, launch or dinner.

3. WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR LAPTOP OR MOBILE PHONE AT HOME AND FEEL A SENSE OF ISOLATION
Because you can't use any of the social media on your phone or PC and your whole mind is on making new posts or tweets; you think of recent messages and comments you had on your last post, it's crystal clear you are a social media addict. And whenever you find yourself away from your PC you keep wondering what your friends could be talking about on the trending post/tweets.

4. YOU ARE ALWAYS LOST TEXTING WHILE YOU ARE WITH FRIENDS OR FAMILY
That moment when you are with your friends and they are discussing on something you should contribute on and you are lost chatting on social media. Many of your friends have stopped visiting you because they think you are a nerd and antisocial, it's because you are addicted to social media.

5. WHILE ONLINE, YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE TO KEEP THE LIGHT OF YOUR PHONE ON
Another sign that assess you are addicted to social media is having to keep the light of your phone on, even when you are not typing to anyone. You like keeping conscious of who comes online or offline, be sure you are social media addict.

6. YOU HAVE MORE SOCIAL MEDIA ICONS ON YOUR SCREEN THAN PRODUCTIVITY
You log into different social network at the same time and would have to carry your power bank along with you just to keep you active on all of them is a symptom you are addicted to social media.

As you assess yourself with these signs, you be on the lookout for my next article 'How To Stop Social Media Addiction'

Ten amazing facts about dreams!

We all have dreams. Some dreams can be our strangest fantasies or other can turn to our wildest nightmares. Here are some facts that might surprise you about how vivid our dreams can be.

#One: We can have more than one dream in a single night and sometimes they even merge with each other, creating complicated haphazard scenes.

#Two: It is impossible to encounter a completely unfamiliar person in our dreams. The people we see in our dreams are in some way known by us. Maybe they are not our friends or coworkers but we have encountered them person at least once in reality. Be it in our drive to office or in our walk trough the park. We come across many faces in a day. So the strangers who haunt you to those allies may not be completely unknown.

#Three: Sometimes dreams can be wet dreams. These dreams feel so real that the person will believe it's happening to them and it will lead to orgasms for some.

#Four: Another funny thing is we tend to forget most of our dreams after waking up. In a research it's said that human mind forgets 80% of dreams just five minutes after waking up and in ten minutes one completely forgets the whole dream. If you want to keep a journal it will be best to write your dreams down everyday.

#Five: Blind people dream too. Yes the people who are not blind from birth dream like us, but the people who were born blind have different kind of dreams. Their dreams are more about other senses than visual.

#Six: Animals dream, they dream just like we humans do. Sometimes you will notice that your pet dog Coco is moving his legs in his sleep, maybe he is chasing after a cat. Your cat Mini possibly hopes you will drop that steak from your plate in her dream. Who knows?

#Seven: Just like there is black&white and colored TV, dreams vary in color. Some people dream in black&white while others in color.

#Eight: Males usually have 75% of their dreams about other males, and their dreams usually have more violence and fight. Females equally dream about both genders.

#Nine: According to some there is a way to know if you are dreaming or not. Try to read a book, it is stated that in dream most people are not able to read. The clock will show wrong time or you will be confused when trying to have you mind work on it.

#Ten: Deja Vu is a strong feeling of a current event or an experience that has already been experience in past. In a survey it is confirmed that two thirds of the world population have Deja Vu. It is common for normal people. Some people gained insight from such dreams.

So next time don't say you are dreamless. Everyone dreams. It is just you are forgetting your dreams.

The wraith

It wasn't a nightmare, but it wasn't a sweet dream either...
I woke up terrified struggling to breathe...
I saw someone with a pale face, blind eyes and sad lineaments... Who is he?
I don't remember seeing him anywhere before...
But I'm sure of one thing, it's that I will not spoil my day just because of a stupid nightmare of someone I don't know!!

So, I had an average day like usual... But... 'Where did I see him before? He looks familiar to me', I asked this to myself when I got a friend request from someone, it was normal to open his profile and check his information and profile picture...
I accepted his request thinking that I might have met him before but I forgot...
Shyly asked him: do I know you? I think I saw you before... But he ensured me that it's the first time we talk and it was just a random request...
He was a nice person with very kind behaviour, I just got close to him quickly...
But... After a week... I woke up terrified struggling to breathe!
I saw someone with a pale face, blind eyes and sad lineaments... I know... This happened to me before...
But there's a difference this time... It's that.. I know who he is!
I forgot about my daily routine and hurried up to talk to him... I have to tell him that he's in danger!
Please reply to me! I saw the wraith of you! Are you sick?!! Why didn't I remember that it was you in the picture!
I felt so sad but I was helpless... I know when someone dreams of a stranger with a pale face, blind eyes and sad lineaments, it means that this stranger is living his last days... I missed you, stranger...
I know you will never reply to my messages anymore... But I'm sure of one thing, it's that I won't spoil my life just because of a passing by stranger...
Life is average... and always will be average... But... Everything will change soon... After meeting him...
A new mate at my work... he shyly came up to me and asked me about my name... I answered...
Then, nice to meet you... then... 'Are you sure that we didn't meet before?', he asked. Well, a stupid selfish girl like me must think that it's a way to start a conversation with me...
It was nice to get a smart mate in the same work team... But... It's terrible when this smart new mate comes to tell me why did he thought that he had seen me before. You are asking why.
He said it's something like fate to see someone in the dream before meeting him... He thinks that it means that our souls met!
But he wonders why was my face pale, my eyes were blind and my lineaments were sad in his dream!
Terrified I ask him when did you see this dream? He said a week ago!
I started feeling pain... and dizzy... I think I have to adieu everyone I know... Quickly... Maybe I have only a couple of hours left!!!!!

Lily's Neighbors (Part I)

Do you believe in the Supernatural? The things which do not seem to have a firm explanation. Many people have tried, but fortunately or unfortunately only a few got their hands dug into that grave soil. Never mind, sometimes I act like such a preacher!

Lily lived happily with her parents and their family dog in a friendly neighborhood. The atmosphere was always tranquil and welcoming. It felt so safe and homey to any stranger or other. The place smelt like flowers and baked cakes with various toppings. Her whole childhood she spent there and now she was a young girl with a kind heart and rebellious nature. She was in the age of uncertainty, or better we call girls around her age teenagers. Having lived seventeen years there the people were well familiar to her and so was she to them. Maybe it sounds a bit far fetched but their locality wasn't that of much.

So when her neighbors the Sandras were moving she felt upset. Not only she was losing her second mom, but her best friend too. Anna was their daughter moving with them, obviously. After some lingering emptiness one day she heard a new family was coming to live in the house. One week passed.

One night when Lily was about to sleep, she peeked through the curtains of her room. A quiet night, stars were shining like little diamonds of light, everything was same but still it didn't feel like other nights. Then she saw it. The light of the room opposite to her window was on. It seemed weird but she waved it off. Thinking who else could be awake at 2am. Sure her friend wasn't back again or surely in those days none of the criminals thought to make it their cover for doing illegal things.

The next day the first news she got was their new neighbors arrived. As a welcoming, her mom sent her there with a homemade pie. She was hesitant but curious too, but curiosity killed the cat. Or so we know, but she was not a cat. Lily went anyway. The house haD an eerie feeling around it, unlike when she and Anna spent their days back then in the very house. It holds so may memories. She rang the bell but no one answered. She decided to check for herself, though it wasn't a civilized manner to enter people's houses uninvited, but then again she didn't consider herself one. Inside was dark. She made her way by supporting her hands on adjacent walls, tripping on every two steps. Suddenly her feet contacted with something cold and sticky beneath. She slipped physically and mentally into the world of looming darkness.

She was awake with a buzzing headache and a little memory loss. She was in her room and what happened between the time when she had fainted and waking up was completely unknown to her. Other than that she wouldn't like to admit but she never felt more alive in her whole life. Something changed, it was a terrible change.

After You're Old Enough Every Time Thinks Like This

I feel and remember how after turning 24 or some time last year, it slowly dawned on me that I was finally an adult and that I’m pretty much going to be on my own. I’m aware that I sort of matured slower than other people, and well, whatever – I’m just a kid at heart, you know?
Here are a few things that made me realize I was no longer a kid:

1. Some of the Olympic athletes I’ve been rooting for are younger than me, and some songs I like are by people who are younger than me. It’s just weird, man. All of my life, I’ve always looked up to people on TV who were always older than me if not the same age. And now, they’re getting younger? They’re practically babies, geez.

2.Everything makes me sleepy and I want to nap all the time nowadays. I’m sure a part of it has to do with not exercising regularly, but still, as a kid I was always on the go. I was either running all the time, playing TV tag or just dancing to the Spice Girls nonstop. Now, it’s really tough to push myself to be more active because napping feels nicer.

3. I don’t care for social events or fitting in. From elementary school all the way to community college, I’ve always tried really hard to fit in and be a part of the cliques I’ve always thought were cool. I wanted to make “cool” friends and have someone to take “cool” MySpace pictures with, really bad!

These days, I’m happy with the close friends that I have and I’m not really using anymore “friend applications”. Also, I dress really normal now. I stopped going shopping. I adore fashion but I don’t dress up to try to impress people anymore unless we’re talking about a job interview. I don’t know if this is a good or a bad thing.

4. I really want to get a cat or a dog! This doesn’t mean you can’t be “young” to take care of a pet, but for me, I never really wanted a pet until now. I’m old enough to accept the responsibility and I want to take care of something as long as it’s not an actual human baby.

The girl with her head in the clouds

Being realistic wasn't in her dictionary. Always imagining things that weren't even imaginable to others, not even in a child's mind. She was young and foolish at heart but her body was way past that time. Grown up at sight, but inside it was way less age at heart and soul.

Head still in the clouds from lack of childhood that she had never gotten back. All the years she spent following her foster parent's rules to be this beautiful young lady, putting on all types of makeup and clothing to be in pageants and modeling shoots. She wasn't allowed to go out and play on the swings, nor to play kickball or even have toys. No. She had to put her childhood on hold.

As she grew older her heart got as big as a beach ball, taking in everything around her. She could be anything in the world. A model, an actress, a singer, a dancer, a lawyer, a doctor, absolutely anything! But out of all the choices in the universe, she chose to be a Girl with her head in the clouds.

Everyday her parents tell her she's not going to get anywhere being an adult child. She shakes her head in disagreement. "You told me I could be anything I wanted. This is what I want." How could her mind be grown up but her heart so child like. She has dolls now, with a pretty pink house. She has a bike and a skateboard, even has a pacifier. What is wrong with her you might ask?

Nothing. Nothing is wrong with her. She's just living her life in reverse. She had to go through adulthood as a child, now she's a child in adulthood. And she wouldn't like it any other way. You know why? Because I'm the girl with her head in the clouds.

48

Frank was a nurse. He worked in a hospital cold chambers where they put dead bodies.
The Hospital was on a high way, far away from people.

Frank's shift was usually around 2 to 3 AM. Frank wasn't the type of guy who would get scared easily, and he never really thought about the whole idea of death since he saw that pretty much daily.

One night it was raining heavily, Frank was listening to his favourite radio show at 2:30 AM, he got curious and pretty much bored so he decided to play with the keys. He saw a key that had a number 48. Frank was confused since there was no chamber number 48, there were only 47 chambers.

All of a sudden the power went off. He was neither shocked nor surprised because it was raining heavily and these sort of things happen.

Frank turned his flashlight on and decided to call the security guards to ask them about the issue. Guards picked up the phone. 'Hello', Frank said, all the reply he got was 'Help'.

He was shocked when the power went back on again and thought it was a prank, but when he looked back, his face went pale and his soul almost left his body. He saw all the 47 dead people in front of him, smiling at him.

Breaking News: A secret Hospital Cold chamber was discovered today, the chamber had the number 48.
