Jack scarcely dreamt. And when he did, everything turned into real events. He dreamt the death of his father, a robbery at the Broadway State Bank, his car accident on the highway number 63 and each time to his utter surprise and horror they happened. And the very last night he dreamt of his own death. Someone shot him right between his eyes at the beach. He didn't see the man's face. Yes a man. And the most unusual fact was that he saw, in the dream, the watch stroke exactly midnight just before the kill.
So, this was his end. Every time he saw a dream, and tried to change his fate, he failed. No matter what, how and where, his dreams predicted the truth and he never could escape the destiny. He was pretty sure that he would end up being dead tonight. And then, there was the success party to be attended at 6 pm sharp. He was an engineer at Xenon software company. That's the reason why his friend Ron had come all the way to join. Ron was a reputated dealer attached to the company and was invited too.
Now our engineer's big secret was totally unknown. He kept concealing the fact from his closest of friends. After all who would have believed him anyway.
"Hey man aint you ready yet? We gotta go to Micheal's remember?", Ron said coming out of the guest room rubbing his eyes. Jack looked up at him delusively.
"Hey man you're acting like you've just seen a ghost or something. Look at you!", Ron chuckled.
But Jack didn't hear a single word. Why? Why was it happening to him, now all of a sudden? He was still a bachelor and at the prime of his life. Damn!
"Hey man. Bro! You listening to me? Brother!", Ron shouted at the top of his voice. "What's going on man?" A look of interrogation on his face.
"Yeah Ron I am okay, fine.", Jack said looking away from him.
"Are we going to Micheal's or not?", Ron asked.
"Let's go." Jack nodded his head.
At the Xenon's success party, 6.30 pm. Lot of things from the dream had happened already, he recalled. He went through a quick flashback trying to remember the day's events till then. They walked to Micheal's apartment at the morning. He met Miss. Angelina and as the dream predicted, she wore those jeans and a sky blue top. But there was something wrong with the prediction this time. Something didn't go quite the way it must have. He tried to remember what it was. And then he realised with gloom that his death wasn't that far!
"Hey, Jack! Jack!", Maria called him from behind. He turned back to his colleague. She looked gorgeously sexy in her red, but hardly did Jack notice.
"Yea hi Maria.", he replied, consummed in his thoughts.
Maria kept saying things that didn't get into his laden mind at all.
"Have a drink Jack! You seem worn out!", she said and left. The only word he heard right was 'drink', and he began looking for one.
After a few glasses he was drunk. But his mind felt clear. He then effectively recalled some more events from the day. They surely happened but as he felt, something was missing all the time. He recalled the dream. He enters the beach and sees a man rushing out of the darkness aiming at him. The next moment he fires, Jack's dead.
Ron was watching all his movements silently. He knew it from that very morning that something was wrong with Jack. He tried but in vain to guess what it might be. Meanwhile Jack gulped down a couple more, and there he stood severely drunk. "I'll change my destiny this time,", he said to himself,"I would!" He touched his pocket and felt the gun he brought with him. A peacemaker.
Jack reached the beach at 10.05 p.m. and parked his car at a distance. It's better to bring myself than destiny doing the favour, he decided, his drunken mind playing insane games with him. The idea was to reach early, wait for the killer to arrive. Yes, this time he would change it for sure. The wine made him determined and confident.
An hour passed by. No one showed up. He stayed watching, patient and lost in a whirlpool of imaginations. He felt like hallucinating, the alcohol working fine. Then against his will, he lay down and felt asleep.
Sound of footsteps woke him up. He looked around and saw a man standing right before him under the streetlight! Jack, losing his mind, emerged out of his hiding and pointed his gun, and shot! The man fell on the road. It was over! Jack lived! The prediction defied! Then, gaining his normal consciousness he was about to flee. But before leaving, he walked to the dead man. A pool of blood. Shot right between the eyes. A closer look, and he realised to his horror that he had killed Ron! He surely came searching for Jack and saw his car! Wait! In a flash he realised the whole truth! He was wrong all the time. It wasn't his vision in the dream, but his friend's! Since Jack followed him all day he saw everything through Ron's eyes! And the killer was Jack himself! He looked at his watch. 12.01 a.m.!
